Eligibility criteria for Government & Private (Aided & Unaided) Schools seeking COBSE membership

Who Can Apply for COBSE School Membership?

The Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) extends its membership to both Government schools and Private (Aided & Unaided) schools across India, provided they meet the eligibility criteria outlined below.

COBSE is India's premier autonomous, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing quality school education. As a unified consortium of recognized education boards across India and abroad, COBSE plays a vital role in promoting curriculum reform, educational equity, and institutional excellence.

Membership in COBSE not only validates a school's commitment to quality education but also provides access to research, advocacy support, and a collaborative network of education boards at the national and international level.

Membership Eligibility for Government & Private Schools

Schools must satisfy one of the two pathways below to be eligible for COBSE membership.

Pathway A Society / Trust-Run Schools

Registered Society or Trust

The school must be run by or under a Registered Society or Trust established under applicable government legislation, ensuring legal accountability and institutional permanence.

National Curriculum Framework Compliance

The school must impart education in alignment with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2015, ensuring standardized, quality learning outcomes for all students.

State-Approved Syllabus

The school's curriculum must be officially approved by the State Government, District Education Officer (DEO), or the Directorate of Education of the respective state.

OR

Pathway B Government-Established or Board-Affiliated Schools

Established or Affiliated Schools

Schools that are directly established by Central or State Government, District Education Authorities, or those formally affiliated with a recognized national education board are automatically eligible for COBSE membership under this pathway.

CBSE Affiliated NIOS Affiliated State Board Affiliated Central / State Govt. Schools District Education Authorities

    Gather Required Documents

    Collect registration certificates, affiliation letters, syllabus approvals, and any government recognition documents relevant to your school.

    Submit Your Application

    Send your completed membership application along with supporting documents to COBSE via email at info@cobse.net.in or visit our office in New Delhi.

    Application Review

    COBSE's membership committee will review your application and may request additional documentation or clarifications if needed.

  5. 5

    Receive COBSE Membership

    Upon approval, your school will be granted COBSE membership and included in the official member registry, gaining access to all associated benefits.
